Team Naetri Adventure Race Report
Registration opened in Darling Harbour at 0830 h, by 1000 h approximately 300 teams had entered each team consisting of two members. With a snappy boot camp style warm up, spiel by the organisers and a chicks team shaving eye brows, then the first clue was finally given. The sound of “Let me entertain you” by Robbie Williams, so off we went to the Entertainment Centre – along with about 700 others which was one of the most awesome sights I’ve ever seen. Any person that has ever spectated or participated in an event that draws so many people in knows exactly what I mean when I say I got shivers of excitement seeing and feeling the energy from everyone, young and old, it was wicked!
Ah, back to the race. Arriving at the Entertainment Centre teams collected their task sheets with 16 tasks on it of which only 12 had to be completed. Renae and myself took 5 or so minutes to plan our route, with the course closing at 4pm we had 6 hours to travel around Sydney by either foot, train, bus or ferry and complete 12 tasks. There were two mandatory tasks to complete – one at Fox studios, the other at Kirriblli, so we immediately cancelled out all tasks out towards the west Sydney area.
Task 1 – Hyde Park
This was a split task
Task 2 – Oxford St
Foam Party!! Went into a club full of foam, hidden in the foam were little stones with a letter on them, we had to spell out “HAHN” (one of the major sponsors of the event)
Then on a bus out to..
Task 3 – Fox Studios
Another major sponsor was Nokia, so for this task we were given one of their phones and using the GPS device in the phone we were to navigate our way through local streets to find the large Nokia phone, once there take a picture of our partner in front of the phone return to fox studios and show them the picture.
Task 4 – Rush Cutters Bay
Boot Camp Circuit. On the completion of this task we were given a list of questions that had to be answered and handed in at the next mandatory point – Kirribilli. One of the questions had a run to the pub and get a Hahn beer coaster. There was no arm twisting getting to the pub.
Part B of Task 1 - Wooloomooloo
Both team members had to jump over elastics resighting a spiel off a card.
From there it was a dash to Circular Quay.
Task 5 – Circular Quay
Recite a spiel off the ground – 36 words correctly
Task 6 – Circular Quay
Volvo Soccer – Drive a Volvo and hit a large blown up soccer ball into a goal
Ferry to Kirribilli then run down to Task 7
Task 7 – Kirribilli
Jeffery’s St Wharf, drop the 13 correct questions off
Task 8 – Kirribilli
Boot Camp – 100 situps 50 push ups 50 burpees, then a dodge through the markets to find the ‘chase point’ and get our number clicked.
Then a run across the Harbour Bridge to….
Task 9 – King George Recreation Centre
Task 10 - Observatory Hill
Had to roll a dice, we rolled a 3 – which meant we had a great big slimy snake put over our shoulders! Lets just say I wasn’t a great fan of this one. Renae didn’t mind though!
Task 11 – China town
Tai Chi. We were taught 6 moves and had to repeat them correctly. Pretty wicked, however at this time it was just after 3pm and we didn’t really want to be doing a task that was so slooow and relaxxxxxing.
Finally off to the last task!! Woo hoo
Task 12 – Ian Thorpe Pool
This was by far the best was to end a day out in the sun running around! Partners had to sit on a pool noodle and swim 100m.
Nice and refreshed we made a mad dash back to Darling Harbour where we completed the event placing in the top 40 teams.
The event held an ‘after party’ with food and drinks available.
Overall this was such an awesome experience! Very well put together! I recommend it for all levels of fitness and definitely encourage everyone to go in it, it’s one of the most memorable races I have ever completed.
