Do we run for the NRA or the ADRAA?
Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 09:15PM This question was asked by NRA member CPO Paul Baker, 'I am a member of both ADRAA & NRA.I have ran in various events, and worn either ADRAA & NRA tops.
When entering events, what is the protocol or 'hierarchy' of who to run for? I know signals do mention this, but not all events/signals (e.g. 2008 SMH 1/2 - I didnt know it was supported by NRA until the Fri before).
e.g. I have enrolled for the Gold Coast Marathon. As ADRAA put out the signal, and will reimburse entrance fee, but arent I actually running for the Navy team in this event?I'm easy either way, just thinking out loud????

The response to the question, answered by CAPT Frank Kresse, RAN is below:
The ADRAA is responsible for administering the sport in Defence and organise a calendar of events that include:Defence Championships (Marathon, 10km Road, XC, Track and Field)Combined Service events (State Teams Half Marathon, Sussan Classic)Defence Athletic Club Teams events (City to Surf, 6Ft Track, etc)Overseas Tours Arafura Games
The Defence Championships are inter-Service events and as such you compete for Navy and as a member of the NRA, you would wear your Navyuniform. Reimbursement is paid by the ADRAA to all competitors.
Combined Service events are open to all Defence personnel so runners can wear either their Service uniform, Unit strip or Defence Athletic Clubstrip. Reimbursement is paid by the ADRAA to all team members.
DAC Teams events and overseas tours are limited to current members ofthe DAC and wearing of DAC uniform is mandatory. Hence, as a member ofthe DAC (ADRAA is the governing body) you would wear your DAC striprather than Navy strip. Reimbursement is paid by the ADRAA to all teammembers.
Any athlete selected for Arafura Games must be (or must register) as a member of the DAC and team members must wear DAC strip.
Events staged and funded by the NRA would require you to wear your Navystrip and reimbursement is paid by the NRA.
Trust this clarifies.
Details on the Gold Coast marathon can be found of the ADRAA website atwww.adf.coolrunning.com.au The signal has been released and POC is SGTMat Skate. As per above, the ADRAA funds this event.
