Navy Running in the Shoalhaven King of the Mountain 2010

The Navy Running Association faced the challenges against the local Nowra Athletics Club for the 36th running of the Shoalhaven King of the Mountain.  Our team of 9 members were no match for the locals; however, we had the enjoyment of running this scenic 32km endurance event which started at the Cambewarra Public School and eventually finishing at the Kangaroo Valley Showground. The runners headed out through the streets of Cambewarra, down Hockey’s Lane, along Illaroo and Budgong Roads up over Mt Scanzi and then down through Kangaroo Valley.

The winner this year was from Sydney in a time of 2hrs:07min:02secs ahead of 131 other runners finally finishing in 5hrs:30min21secs.

Navy Runners:

1st  Male           Jeff Rayner                   2.34.47

2nd                    Raimund Winkler          2.37.19

3rd                    Jock Lindsay                2.39.37

4th                    Luke Heckenberg         2.55.27

5th                    Ryan Heckenberg         2.55.27

6th                    Mick    Horan               3.05.19

7th                    Richard Bosdyk            3.14.49

1st Female        Annie Schofield            3.42.08

2nd                    Smantha Rampant         3.53.43

This year’s event we saw the introduction of a very Celtic feel with pipe bands, displays and other activities at the Kangaroo Valley Showground.  This is a fantastic country run and the NRA are continue to promote this event, through great prizes for Defence members, to be a premier NRA event; but we need your support. Next year we would like to recognise our female runners, requiring a minimum of 4 female competitors. A bonus would see some of our younger, faster runners entering to take out the team challenge.

Remember to place this race in your diaries for the 2nd week in July next year and in the meantime check out our activities at http://www.navyrunning.com/downloads/  for many more events such as the Sydney and Perth City to Surfs in Aug, the Sydney Running festival across the Bridge in Sep, Defence Track and Field and many more events supported by the Navy Sports Council both financially and in endorsing duty status in many cases.
